Our Journey as a Certified B Corp

At Forge and Spark Media, 2024 has been a year of incredible growth, meaningful impact, and deepened commitment to purpose-driven business.

As a proud certified B Corporation, we’re passionate about balancing our dedication to creating high-quality content with our responsibility to contribute to sustainability, social good, and positive change. In this report, we reflect on our journey, share the progress we’ve made, and set our sights on the exciting goals we’ve planned for 2025.

When we first applied to become a B Corp in 2021, we were both excited and a little nervous. It felt like a natural next step for Forge and Spark—a reflection of the values that have always driven us—but we were uncertain about what lay ahead. Would we qualify? Did we truly understand what it meant to balance profit with purpose?

Thankfully, we didn’t have to navigate it alone. With the support of Decade Impact and their Getting to 80 program, we found our way through the process. The encouragement, advice, and camaraderie of the other businesses in our cohort—many of whom were just as nervous as we were—made all the difference. We learned so much from the journey, and in August 2022, we officially became a certified B Corp. This was a huge milestone for us, solidifying our commitment to transparency, sustainability, and integrity in everything we do.

As we look forward to our recertification, we’re proud of the progress we’ve made and excited about the opportunities to deepen our impact. In 2024, Shannon attended the B Corp Conference, which brought fresh ideas and inspiration for how we can continue to grow our mission and strengthen our purpose.

This year, we’ve had the privilege of working with other amazing B Corps, such as Reid’s and Genus Capital Management, which allowed us to showcase our expertise in purpose-driven storytelling while amplifying the social and environmental impact of these inspiring companies and teams of people.

Education is at the heart of what we do. Through our content, webinars, and courses, we offer tools that foster learning and development, both within our team and for our clients. We’re also proud to support educational initiatives through our Giving Back Program, ensuring women and marginalized communities have access to quality education.

We’re passionate about gender equality and ensuring women and women-identifying folks have the opportunities they deserve. As a women-led team, we work hard to provide leadership and mentorship opportunities, empowering women to grow and thrive in every role.

Creating a positive, supportive, and growth-oriented work environment is central to who we are. Our team enjoys professional development opportunities, a flexible work-life balance, and a culture of care that encourages personal and professional growth. We hosted quarterly Lunch & Learns and encouraged ongoing learning through our dedicated Learning Channel.

Team-Building

From our HeyTaco appreciation system to gatherings, celebrations, and fun photoshoots, we prioritize bonding and appreciation for each other’s hard work.

Change is the only constant in content marketing, so we’ve made it a practice to share what we learn with one another through training and mentorship.

Looking Forward: Goals for 2025

As we move into 2025, we’re setting our sights on some ambitious goals:

Goal 1: Expand pro bono work
We plan to increase our pro bono content creation for non-profits and B Corps.

Goal 2: Carbon neutrality by 2025
We’re committed to offsetting any remaining emissions through verified carbon offset programs.

Goal 3: Support team well-being
We’ll introduce new employee well-being initiatives, including additional mental health support and flexible wellness days.

Goal 4: Deepen our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI)
We’ll provide additional leadership training to ensure that our workplace fosters an environment of respect and inclusivity, equipping our leadership with the tools to support these values in everything we do.
